Who am I?
I am a student currently studying in Raffles Institution in Singapore. I was born 14 years ago, and I am not very tall. My annual resolution will definitely include 'growing taller', and I am convinced that I will grow taller every year. I was born in Gleneagles' Hospital in Singapore. I live with my family in Singapore, very near to my school. For me, the bus ride to school, excluding waiting time, is only 3 minutes.
My name is Ackerley. The name means 'Old Oak Tree'. From that, I gather that my parents want me to be knowledgeable and full of wisdom. I am not sure whether I am up to that, but I am sure that I will strive to achieve that. The awards that I have received are mostly academic, and they tend to be science awards.
I am not a very vocal person; I cannot express my thoughts well, and speeches are not my cup of tea. However, I can consider myself to be more logically, scientifically and technologically inclined, although it still takes some time for me to work out mathematical problems.
Life is definitely stressful for me. Due to the large number of tests, I spend most of my time studying, and hardly find anytime for hobbies. This makes my life so boring. Contrary to popular belief, I do not enjoy studying; the circumstances force me to study.
Nevertheless I find myself very fortunate to be born in such a comfortable family who provides for everything. I was one of the few in my batch who did not take the Bacillus Calmette-Guerin(BCG) immunisation when I was in Primary 6, as during that year, our government was in the process of confirming whether a second injection would do any good to us. Also, I find myself extremely fortunate to be the pioneer batch in the Raffles Programme, in which we do not take the 'O' levels and are promoted directly to Raffles Junior College.
School life has been generally fun for me, thanks to the many wonderful and supportive friends that I have. We help each other out of tight spots, play together and of course, learn from one another. In my opinion, this forms the best part of school life. Without school, I would not have known any of them, and life would be even more boring.
In future, I would like to be a scientist or a computer programmer. However, judging by current conditions, I think it will be difficult to take on any of those jobs, especially in Singapore. Well, in Singapore, living costs are high. In order to support myself, it would probably be more practical to work in an office, drawing a monthly, fixed salary, which will definitely be more productive and dependable than sourcing for funds to carry out experiments or finding projects from companies to write a computer program.
From my ambition, I think you would have guessed that I am a very pragmatic person. Also, if you befriend me, be assured that you will gain a trustworthy friend who will lend a listening ear.
